Laser Carving

This untitled artwork by Hooman Derakhshandeh , is from his latest series Discourse, displayed at Etemad Gallery. The portrait of the woman engraved on the used traffic sign, is from his painting “Replica” which was part of the artist’s 2009 series “Contradiction”. By forging together the two representations into one object, Derakhshandeh redefines a new identity. As a result, in our constant urge to identify ourselves through our surroundings, we leave irremovable trace marks on them, unaware that, in fact, we are the ones who are defining not only ourselves, but our surroundings as well.
